The
Ladies Philoptochos Society of St. Nektarios
holds several fundraisers annually. You can
read more about specific events and supported
causes below.
February / March
Apokriatiko
Glendi
- A fun family night—we have a
DJ, enjoy a light dinner, and dance
the night away.
- Outreach Revival Church Annual
Easter Egg Hunt
The Philoptochos organizes collection
of plastic eggs, trinkets, and wrapped
candy to be donated to the Outreach
Revival Church’s Easter Egg Hunt.
Then the Philoptochos and GOYA work
together to fill more than 1,000 eggs
plastic eggs for the hunt. |
April
| Palm
Sunday Luncheon is served directly after
the Divine Liturgy. |
September
UNC
Charlotte International Festival—we
sell pastries and frappe, sponsor a
cultural display and sometimes have
dancers. This is a great one-day fundraiser
for us! |
October
-
CROPWalk
Philoptochos organizes the parish to
participate in the walk, the largest
CROPWalk in the country. We raise money
(to be distributed by Church World Services)
to feed the hungry here in Charlotte
and across the world. 25% of the money
stays in Charlotte to be distributed
to Crisis Assistance Ministry, Loaves
and Fishes, and Second Harvest Food
Bank. More information is available
at www.cws.org.
- Junior CROPWalk
Philoptochos works with our Catechism
and Youth Ministry Programs to organize
this walk for our JOY/Hope children.
It’s a wonderful way to raise
awareness about world hunger.

November
Angel
Tree of Giving—The Philoptochos
organizes the Angel Tree of Giving for
our community. The tree goes up and
“angel” ornaments (for boys
and girls between the ages of 2 and
14) go on the tree. Our parishioners
shop for the children and gift wrap
the items, then presents are taken to
an urban outreach center located on
Charlotte’s west side. Presents
are distributed at the Outreach Revival
Church “Saturday-Sunday School”
program. |
December
Christmas
Brunch is held the first Saturday in
December. Funds are donated to a charity
selected by the Philoptochos. |
